A new home has to fit its site, not just its plans. For the Cupi Residence in Central Illinois, we started with the land itself. We laser scanned the site to capture its existing topography, then designed, modeled, and rendered the home around those real-world conditions. The result was a complete custom home design package built on verified site data.

We captured the site first with high-accuracy laser scanning, so every decision, starting with where the home would sit, reflected actual conditions on the property.

The Challenge
Every custom home design starts with the same question: where does the house go, and how does it sit on the land? The site’s grade and terrain shape that answer. When those conditions are estimated, not measured, design decisions rest on assumptions that may not hold up once construction begins.
Chris needed a home design grounded in what his site actually looked like, along with the drawings and visuals to move confidently from concept to construction.
Our Solution
We approached the project in three phases, each building on the one before it.
- Capture the site: Our scan technician laser scanned the property to capture its existing topography. We then processed and registered the point cloud data into a single, accurate 3D record of the site.
- Place and design the home: With real-world site conditions in hand, we determined the home’s placement and developed the design against the actual terrain, not an assumed one.
- Model and visualize: We built the residence as a complete 3D model in Revit. From that model, we produced conceptual renderings so Chris could see the finished home, along with construction drawings for the build. Because the renderings and drawings came from the same model, they stayed consistent with each other and with the site.
