The Challenge: Accurately Capturing Complex Sign Geometry
Modernizing an existing scoreboard sign requires one critical piece of information: the exact outline and profile of the structure. For a curved, dimensionally complex sign like the Pekin Dragon, manual measurement is impractical. It’s also inaccurate. Tape measures and traditional field methods struggle to capture the geometry of a 3D curved surface without errors.
KSA needed an accurate template before design and installation could proceed confidently. Without verified dimensions, they risked ordering components that didn’t fit. This would create delays and unnecessary costs.
Our Solution: Laser Scanning Captures Accurate Geometry
TWG deployed the Leica RTC360 to scan the sign. The scanner captured its exact outline and dimensions in high-density point cloud data. Every edge and surface detail was documented. This created a verified digital record of the sign’s existing geometry without manual measurement.
Then TWG created a template document from that scan data. KSA could use it directly for light strip design and fabrication planning. The template reflected the sign’s true dimensions. As a result, KSA had a verified foundation for the modernization project.
